Narrative Therapy now attracts global interest because its practices are applicable over a wide range of presenting problems and across cultures.
The process of externalising the problem is invigorating for the questioner and empowering for the questioned. The well known practice of “externalising” and the “thickening of unique outcomes” will be explained and demonstrated. This enables people to relate to the problem rather than being the problem. Instead of being a "worrier" the person becomes someone who has a problem with “worry”.
Problems are situated in the socio political contexts of people's lives so that every problem is regarded as a social problem - they are not the creation of the individual. Another important idea is that of "lives being multi storied". No matter how entrenched a problem may seem to be there will always be a gap - an idea or event that does not fit the problematic account of life. This two day workshop will include the following:
• An exposé of the thinking that informs the practices
• Demonstrations of the various practices of Narrative Therapy
• Exercises where participants may experience the micro skills of Narrative Therapy
• Participants will be given a workbook and an extensive reading list
