Same-sex couples would be keen to use Relationships Australia services a recent survey has shown.
The Relationships Australia (WA) Diverse Sexuality Survey raised awareness substantially.
Elizabeth Brennan, Relationships Australia (WA) Manager of Community Education, says she was delighted and surprised at the sheer variety of courses that interested the couples.
“The survey showed that many did not know Relationships Australia was same-sex-friendly,” she says. “A widespread view was that we provided only marriage guidance counselling.
“However, the response showed that services on negotiation and communication skills, as well as parenting skills, would be attractive to same-sex couples.”
Elizabeth, an experienced promoter and coordinator of courses on same-sex relationships, is looking forward to building on the links that the survey produced.
“We would like to establish ourselves as a place for same-sex couples to go to for help. The two most popular options, the survey showed, were short courses of between two and three hours, and full-day courses.”
